The Historical Resources Division is responsible for the collection, preservation and access to the historical public records held in the archive vault at the Historic Courthouse. In addition, the collection includes non-government records such as photographs, diaries, maps, newspapers, oral histories, manuscripts and artifacts.
The Division develops appropriate programs to preserve, interpret and exhibit artifacts and information which reflect the heritage of Citrus County, its people, places and events, and communities and surrounding area. The division achieves this through the Citrus County Archives and Special Collections. The term "archives" means the non-current records of a group, organization or institution which are preserved because they contain information of permanent or lasting value.
Historical records are maintained by staff under the direction of the Citrus County Clerk of Courts, custodian of the records, in the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum.
The Museum is located in the heart of downtown Inverness on Courthouse Square. Parking is available for two hour periods around the square and unlimited parking is available in the public parking lot southeast of the Historic Courthouse.
