The Clerk of the Circuit Court is a Public and Court Official, performing the constitutional and statutory duties of the circuit and county courts in maintaining custody of court records and all pleadings filed therein. The Clerk acts as ex-officio Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, auditor, recorder and custodian of county funds and, as such, has a variety of general administrative duties, which involve legal and financial responsibilities.
Duties of Florida Clerks of Court
1. Duties as a Member of the Court:
Attend each session of court
File indictments, informations and verdicts
Process all Civil and Criminal cases
Prepare records to next highest court of appeals
Jury administration
Receive payments for fines, court costs, child support and victim restitution and disburse to each agency
2. Duties as County Recorder
Record and index deeds, mortgages, and other documents relating to ownership, encumbrance or transfers of property
Record Tax liens, instruments of conveyance, agreements, contracts, maps and plats of subdivisions
Process tax deed applications and conduct sales
Maintain index and image of official records on the public internet from 1980 to current
Maintain a records storage facility
3. Duties as Ex-officio Clerk and Accountant to the Board of County Commissioners
Attend all meetings of the Board of County Commissioners
Index the official minutes of Board of County Commissioners meetings
Custodian of all County resolutions, ordinances and contracts
Process appeals before the Value Adjustment Board
4. Duties as Custodian of County Funds and County Auditor
Provide accounting services to all the departments under the Board of County Commissioners
Responsible for the investment of available County funds
Provide financial reporting to the Board and all federal and state agencies
Process accounts payable
Process the County payroll
